Saxon Leather Case Study

Saxon Leather are a long established manufacturer of classic and contemporary leather furniture based in Bolton. Citrus-Lime have been their ecommerce partner for many years now and their site is a multi-million pound success.

Background

Saxon Leather was an established manufacturer of classic and contemporary furniture based in Bolton. They had confidence that with the right partner they could simulate enough of their successful in-store shopping experience to generate significant online revenue.

Partnership with Citrus-Lime

We took the time to try and understand the company, its products, and the market it operated in. By working together with Saxon Leather we developed a design brief which would meet their online goals. Some of the challenges we identified were;

  • to reflect the quality of the furniture and the high standing of the company in the site design;
  • to allow users to access to as much information as possible that would help support buying decisions;
  • to replicate the successful sales process that works in-store

Building the Saxon store...

We wanted to project the quality of the products and differentiate the company from its competitors. We did this by giving a full background of everything that goes into making one piece of furniture, the customisation options, the quality of the materials and the extended 15 year guarantee. This included pictures of the furniture being hand-made by the Saxon Leather craftsmen and women.

We also wanted to build something that was unique for Saxon and achieved this through the use of creative photography and colour-changing functionality. The colour-changing functionality was applied to a product range of about 60+ items with some products being shown in upto 40 colours, giving the full product range of over 1000 options. This enabled customers in the online store to visualise their choices in a way they were unable to on any competitor's site.

Result!

The store has been a tremendous success, in both online sales and as a sales generation tool for the business as a whole. The creative and intuitive design of the site allows the customer to follow the same process as they do in-store;

  • First a customer selects a range of furniture;
  • They then look at colour choices to work out if the furniture will match their living area;
  • The customer will then look at sizing information to make sure the furniture is proportioned appropriately for their home;
  • The customer will then investigate pricing and options on the furniture.

This is one of the reasons we have been able to generate significant online sales for complex high value products - something which is widely recognised as being difficult to do online.
