Detailed information about Climbers Shop Case Study

Climbers Shop Case Study

Climbers Shop, based in Ambleside in the English Lake District, has been an ecommerce client of Citrus-Lime for a number of years and by working together we have managed to help them become a multi-million pound success.

Background

Climbers Shop already had an online presence, but by their own admission it needed a serious redesign. With over 33,000 products available and an increasingly recognisable brand, Climbers Shop were ready to take a fresh approach in order to improve the site and integrate it with the existing business.

Partnership with Citrus-Lime

After speaking at length with the design and commercial teams at Citrus-Lime, and spending time reviewing our portfolio, Climbers Shop decided to work with Citrus-Lime.

We jointly identified the key requirements that the new site would have to achieve;

  • A site which developed and reflected the Climbers Shop brand;
  • A site which integrated with the Climbers Shop's existing epos system, so that the two sides of the business could share stock and pricing levels;
  • A site which offered a full range of commercial features.

Building the Climbers Shop store

We decided to take a modern contemporary approach with animated flash elements and a simple navigation and search system to allow customers to easily locate the products they were interested in.

The major challenge was the merging of product descriptions and images from the old site with the epos database. The project successfully linked all 33,000 product records and resulted in a shared stock file for the store and ecommerce site. Also any products entered into the stock database are automatically added to the navigation system, reducing manual workload and the need for our assistance in site updates.

The design also took full advantage of the ecommerce features available such as vouchers, customer newsletter sign-up and an innovative way of allowing customers to contact members of the Climbers shop staff with questions involving products in their area of expertise.

Result!

The Climbers Shop website achieved all of the goals set out at the design brief stage, and has been successfully integrated with the "Bricks & Mortar" store to form a valuable addition to the business. We have worked closely together to promote the site with a range of marketing activities and assist Climbers Shop staff in keeping the site fresh and relevant with new features and on-going improvements.

Update

As well as keeping the Climbers Shop store fresh and up-to-date we have replaced their legacy epos system with a Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System based fully integrated "Clicks and Mortar" solution.
