Dynamic Image Resizer

Dynamic Image Resizing — Removes the need to use additional software to format images and avoids you having to recreate the same image at different resolutions and dimensions.

Dynamic Image Resizing — Removes the need to use additional software to format images and avoids you having to recreate the same image at different resolutions and dimensions.

The technology works with by taking a product image (preferably a high-res image that most disties/suppliers can provide) and using our DIR technology to produce both the standard ‘Small’ and ‘Main’ images used on Citrus-Retail ecommerce sites, and also images for use in our Multiple Image Viewer - which is great for displaying life-style and action shots on the product pages.

The technology has the following benefits;

  • Removes the need for time consuming and skilled image manipulation within your team;
  • No requirement to create a ‘small image’ (thumb nail) for each product;
  • Reduces time spent uploading images;
  • The resize technology uses bicubic resampling scaling to ensure the highest image quality;
  • The system can ‘white pad’ images to ensure the source images aspect ratio is maintained. The best results come from images which target the aspect ratio advised by your project manager, however this ensures images are not stretched or skewed;
  • The technology is ‘real time’ so there is no delay for uploaded images to be processed;
  • The resized images are ‘cached’ which provides the highest possible performance.

Example of Resizing an image using the DIR

Without DIR

Orginal Image Size:
540 (width) x 460 (height)

path:
http://www.citrus-retail.com/layout/DIR-chainset.jpg

Output:
This image needed to be resized in Photoshop and then saved for web in order to be optimised for image quailty and file size.

With DIR on same image

Orginal Image Size:
540 (width) x 460 (height)

new size:
250 (width) x 213 (height)

path:
http://www.citrus-retail.com/layout/DIR-chainset.jpg?width=250&height=213

Output:
The DIR automatically resizes and compresses the images on the fly, it's that easy!

Example of White Padding an image using the DIR

Without DIR

Orginal Image Size:
540 (width) x 460 (height)

path:
http://www.citrus-retail.com/layout/DIR-whitepadding.jpg

Output:
This image needed to be resized in Photoshop and then saved for web in order to be optimised for image quality and file size.

With DIR on same image

Orginal Image Size:
540 (width) x 460 (height)

new Size:
250 (width) x 400 (height)

path:
http://www.citrus-retail.com/layout/DIR-chainset.jpg?width=250&height=425

Output:
The DIR automatically resizes the image even though the dimensions have changed, because we change the image from a square to a rectangle, the DIR automatically centers the image both horizontally and vertically and whites the the remaining space, maintaining your aspect ratio

With DIR on same image

Original Image Size:
540 (width) x 460 (height)

new Size:
675 (width) x 200 (height)

path:

Output:
The DIR automatically resizes the image even though the dimensions have changed, because we change the image from a square to a rectangle, the DIR automatically centers the image both horizontally and vertically and whites the the remaining space, maintaining your aspect ratio
